I bet most of you have not heard of this sport before. I used to play it with my family and friends all the time. The exhilarating Indian sport that’s guaranteed to get your heart racing and your funny bone tickled! Perfect for all ages and fitness levels, Kho Kho combines agility, strategy, and a whole lot of laughter, making it an ideal game for a fun-filled day out with the family.
How It’s Played:

Two teams, each consisting of 3-12 players, face off on a rectangular field. One team kneels in the centre of the field(Chasers), while the other team( Runners) sends out runners to dodge and weave between the chasers.
Objective
The chasers have to tag/capture all the runners from the runner team. Once this happens the teams switch sides and the chasers become the runners and vice versa. The team that captures(Tags) all the runners in the least time wins
Formation
Formation Chasers
Sit sideways at a distance of about one arm. Every second person is turned in the opposite direction. So First placer faces one way and second player faces the other way and so on.
Formation Runners
Runners enter three at a time. After the 3 are captured the next three come to the play arena
Movement
Movement Chasers
Chasers can run only in one direction. The first chaser from the left begins play. At the time of standing up the chaser can decide which direction they want to run to. They cannot run between the chasers and thus have to run the entire circle to go back.
Movement Runners
Runners can run anywhere. They can run through the chaser line and not get caught. Usually, one of the two strategies is used:
- To outrun the chaser by going in the direction the chaser cannot
- To skip sides so that the chaser has to run the entire circle to get them
Tagging
Chasers tagging Chasers
Chasers can tag their fellow chasers only from behind. They have to say “Kho” while doing this, this makes the sitting chaser the active chaser who then runs after the runners.
Chasers tagging Runners
If the chaser touches the runner the runner is considered tagged/captured
